INSPIRATION Francesco Scognamiglio FW 2009||10… Balmain FW 2014||15

The amazing Italian talent Francesco Scognamiglio is well known in the fashion and celebrity system for his divine creations that are much closer to couture then RTW. Vogue Japan featured in 2009 this Scognamiglio total look from his FW 2009||10 collection, styled by Sissy Vian and photographed by Daniel Jackson [left]… that slightly reminds me of one outfit from the latest Balmain FW 2014||15 runway show [right].

INTO THE SAME IDEA… Delpozo and Meadham Kirchhoff FW 2014||15

Balanced modernity meets art on the FW 2014||15 catwalks in New York, gently amalgamated with scalloped colour-block in mellow cold hues. On one hand we have the demi-couture collection for Delpozo designed by Joseph Font who has been inspired by Italian  Post-Cubist painter Duilio Barnabe [left] and the other hand the decadent Chanel homage collection of Meadham Kirchhoff [right].

INSPIRATION Yves Saint Laurent SS||1980... Valentino SS||2014 Haute Couture

Music is in the air and into fashion: Yves Saint Laurent's black transparent evening dress from 1980 with printed music notes [left] might have been an inspiration to the opposite color embroidered version of Valentino's opening gown of the 'Opera" collection' designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for SS||2014 haute couture [right].

INSPIRATION Charles James 1953… Stella McCartney SS||2014 pre-collection

As many times before also this year's annual exhibition of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has and will inspire fashion designers work. The show named 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion" will kick-off the 8th of May and examines the work and career of the legendary Anglo-American couturier. One of his beautiful creations is this sculptured evening gown from 1953 [left], that might have been an inspiration to this ultra-modern cocktail dress of Stella McCartney [right].

INTO THE ARCHIVES... Valentino 1979 and Valentino FW 2014||15

The wonderful super model Gia Carangi, here photographed by François Lamy for Vogue Italia in 1979, is wearing a Madras pattern dress designed by Valentino Garavani [left]. The pattern and making might have been an inspiration to Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri for FW2014||15 [right], since they are recurrent in various styles seen in this collection.

INTO THE SAME IDEA... Edun and Miu Miu FW 2014||15

Chunky knits will be certainly one of the big customer trends for next winter and my favorite pieces are the textured oversized tunic and tank top that create a beautiful daywear aesthetic. Danielle Sherman for Edun designs a texture-blocked camel colored dress [left] while Miuccia Prada goes with a short and boxy style with a green rice stitch knit and light pink hem stripe for her label Miu Miu [right].

INSPIRATION Alexander McQueen FW 2010||11... Dolce&Gabbana FW 2012||13

The V&A museum has just announced that the exhibition 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" will take place in London in spring 2015. The first and largest retrospective of the late designer’s work to be presented in Europe, the exhibition will showcase McQueen’s visionary body of work. The original version of 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in 2011 was organized by the Costume Institute and became one of the Museum's top 10 most visited exhibitions. Whenever The Met or the V&A showcases an important costume or fashion exhibition it immediately effects fashion designers work. Just remember the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations" or 'Punk: Chaos to Couture" ones for example: the impact of those two shows has been paramount for the following fashion season. We can imagine that the same thing will happen with the Alexander McQueen exhibition, even this the collections of this particular fashion house seem always to inspire: Alexander McQueen FW 2010||11 [all lefts] and Dolce&Gabbana FW 2012||13 [all rights].
