Gladys Perint Palmer is a respected fashion illustrator and journalist who has just published a delightful book, Adam & Yves, with a selection of her irreverent drawings and memories of the past decades of fashion. Her talent lies in the way she looks at things and how, with a unique sense of humour, she transforms her opinion on fashion into elegant sketches and sparkling comments that touch the heart. So far, Palmer has published at least ten fashion books, sold in London, Paris, and Milan, and has contributed to the most respected fashion publications, such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, L’Officiel and The New Yorker, in addition to her work as Executive Director of Fashion at San Francisco’s Academy of Art. Included in the book are illustrations of various Missoni collections, such as Missoni SS||1991 [left] and SS||1994 [right].
In an age of instantaneity “Adam and Yves” draws attention to the heritage of fashion and illustrates – with ink, pastels and passion – the influence the past will always exert on us. It is a book that has already become a collectable.
