INSPIRATION American Horror Story 'Coven" 2014… Rochas FW 2014||15

The extremely successful American TV series American Horror Story, that has delighted us with the presence of the amazing Jessica Lange, has arrived this year to its third and most fashionable season. Even more than before, in this edition there has been putted a particular cure on the outfits of the protagonists, making standing out the ones of Frances Convoy interpreting the role of Myrtle Snow [left]. The eccentric head of the witches council who will be burned twice at the stake, because once is just not enough, had not only a special hair style but also wore the most bizarre outfit combinations. How fashionable the FOX produced series was can be seen in Marc Jacobs' choice of Jessica Lange as the face for his just to be launched cosmetic line Marc Jacobs Beauty, but not only... The new creative director of Rochas, Alessandro dell'Acqua, who has just debuted with a enchanting collection during PFW, might have been inspired by a look of the Myrtle Snow character for his beautifully odd [dish-washing-alike] glove styling [right].

INSPIRATION Givenchy FW 2013||14... MSGM FW 2014||15

MSGN is a young and fun Italian label, founded in 2008 by the fashion designer Massimo Giorgetti, who creates every season fun prints and powerful, easily recognizable patterns. In the latest collection for FW 2014||15 presented last week during MFW, MSGM showcased a collection [all rights] that revealed kind of a resemblance in terms of colors, patterns and styling to the very successful FW 2013||14 collection of Givenchy [all lefts].

INSPIRATION Comme des Garçons FW 2003||04… Marc by Marc Jacobs FW 2014||15

I just loved the debut collection of Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier for Marc by Marc Jacobs' FW 2014||15, that ranged in references from classical plaid patterns over girly ninjas to BMX bikers [all rights]. As fresh and new the looks appeared on the NYFW catwalk, still there can be noticed a great deal of inspirations in hairstyle, patterns, accessories and details taken from the iconic "pilgrimage' collection of the Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons FW 2003||04 [all lefts].

INTO THE SAME IDEA… Preen and Rodarte FW 2014||15

STAR WARS: The Return Of The Jedi… I do not know why in this specific moment of time the 'Star Wars' movies should be a thing in fashion, but apparently they are. The British label Preen designed by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi [left] have chosen a huge Darth Vader head as a pattern for their collection while the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte went with various subjects of the George Lucas sequel trilogy, like the death star for example [right].

INSPIRATION Geoffrey Beene 1967... Tom Ford FW 2014||15

It has been a while since I have catched Tom Ford on an inspiration [click here]. The FW 2014||15 collection he has shown yesterday during LFW, was partly inspired by the sixties, and featured some short sequin football dresses [right]. After the show Tom Ford actually admitted to Tim Blanks from Style.com to have created a knock off version, worth $6,500, of Geoffrey Beene's collection from 1967 [left, editorial September issue of Harpers Bazaar 1967]. Well, thanks for doing so Tom, but in my opinion an homage to another designer is always just copying in a polite manner.

THANK YOU ZARA!... Marc Jacobs SS||2014 and Zara SS||2014

While awaiting Marc Jacobs' first collection without the pressure of being also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton [his show always closes the NYFW and is scheduled for Thursday at 8.00 pm].... let's celebrate him as one of the strongest trend influencers when it comes to inspire fast fashion brands. His Hawaiian color changing floral pattern [left] are seen on various items of Zara's current collection for SS||2014 [left] that continues to arrive in the stores in these weeks.

INSPIRATION 'The Shining" by Stanley Kubrick 1980… Coach FW 2014||15

NYFW has began and one of news of the season was the launch of the first ready-to-wear line of the American leather goods house Coach. The creative director of the label is the British designer Stuart Vevers, who previously has worked at Loewe and Mulberry. My favored look of the collection is for sure the Apollo pullover [right], inspired by the one worn by little Danny Torrance [left] in the movie 'The Shining" by Stanley Kubrick.

THANK YOU ZARA!... Céline SS||2014 and ZARA SS||2014

Now that the sales are coming to an end, the new arrivals for the SS||2014 season start to fill the stores. As usual fast fashion retailers bet first on the trends launched by the star designers of the fashion system, such as Marc Jacobs, Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent and of course Phoebe Philo for Céline. And as a matter of fact, Zara proposes within the first summer proposals, in their stores and online, some items [all rights] that remember the artsy 'Urban Modernist" collection of Céline [all lefts].

INSPIRATION Jane Birkin 1970... Dsquared SS||2014

A wonderful Jane Birkin, photographed by Alex Chatelain for Vogue Paris in 1970 wearing a cropped knit top [left]... 'might" have been an inspiration for Dean and Dan Caten and their SS||2014 collection for Dsquared [right].
