One of the most beautiful advertisement campaigns of this winter might be the maison Valentino Garavani one, inspired by the Dutch artwork of the golden age. The photographer couple Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot the campaign with the models pose in wonderful virtuous attitudes [right above] for which this period is known for [left above, 'Portrait of a Young Woman with Fan" Jan Daemen Cool 1636]. In addition they have created still-life images that reflect the Flemish style [left below, 'Flowers in a vase with shells and insects" Balthasar van der Ast 1630] including flowers, fruits and feathers surrounding the season’s accessories [right below].

Wondering what a haircut to get for the winter season? Try to get inspired by the Alexander McQueen FW 2004||5 embryonic alien look [left], ... like Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy's FW 2013||14 collection [right].

The it-bag series 'Rockstud" launched a view seasons ago by maison Valentino [left above: Valentino Garavani Rockstud clutch 990 Euro and left below: Valentino Garavani Rockstud medium shopping bag 1590 Euro].... might have been an inspiration to the Michael Kors 'Selma" bag series [right above: Michael Kors Large Selma Clutch 90 Euro and right below Michael Kors Large Selma tote 320 Euro]. In any case, these very similar products are not directly in competition since the enormous price difference between will evidently attract very different target groups.

There are some designer-icons from the past that never stop to inspire today's creative directors in their designs for their current collections; one of them is for sure Geoffrey Beene. After the inspirations used by Stella McCartney for FW 2011||12 [click here] and the Beene-Céline-affair of Phoebe Philo's FW 2013||14 [click here], also Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa gets inspired by the Beene vibe for his resort fashion for SS||2014 [right] and this editorial from 1989 for Mirabella magazine, beautifully photographed by Michael O'Neill [left].

Seeing that Zara is releasing this week the first images of their beautiful FW 2013||14 AD campaign, it just comes easy to me to continue with another post regarding their winter collection inspirations. The Zara main collection has very strong Céline and Stella McCartney influences, even if these particular picture of the new winter advertisement has a certain Proenza Schouler feeling.

They say 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"… well, then Hedi Slimane must be really flattered since his FW 2013||14 grunge collection for Saint Laurent has been used as an inspiration for a huge part of Zara's TRF line. Maybe less flattering is the fact that such a high end product like a Saint Laurent collection has made it just to be inspiring for the second, less expensive, line of Zara and not their main collection. Ouch, that might hurt.... even more since some journalists during the last PFW have written very severe reviews about Slimane's Saint Laurent collection, saying that his designs would be more fitting for a Topshop target. Zara might have taken these reviews as a clue.

If you like the Dutch pottery motifs I mentioned in my last post 'INTO IT... the Delft porcelain patterns", that features for example the collection of Carven for SS||2013 [both lefts], you will probably also find attractive the new canvas shopper with a decorative façade print of &Other Stories... available in the stores right now [both rights].
